Ever wonder why we use so many different tools for measuring? The Bagel Labs team had similar thoughts, and decided to create the Bagel, a smart all-in-one tape measure, which can save measurements, record voice memos, and measure just about anything.
Bagel was designed with three separate modes to tackle the wide range of circumstances in which a user needs to measure something.
- String Mode: This works the same as a traditional tape measure, but due to its flexibility, can be used to measure both straight lines and curved objects and surfaces for up to about 10 feet (3 meters).
- Wheel Mode: This is designed to help users who are unable to use both hands to measure length or distance in a given situation. It is suitable for curved surfaces and oddly shaped objects, measuring up to about 33 feet (10 meters).
- Remote Mode: For users who wish to measure distance to areas that are hard to reach or far away, the remote mode is suitable. The user switches to this mode, points an ultrasonic sensor at the desired target and Bagel informs the user how far away that object, wall, etc. is. A user can measure up to 16 feet 4 inches (5 meters).
The smart technology incorporated into bagel comes into play with each measurement. A save button located on the device can be used to record the measurement. Subsequently, a user can add a voice memo to describe what was measured and Bagel will convert your voice to text, displaying the measurement on the Bagel mobile app. The app is offered free and can measure in inches, centimeters, or millimeters (with a corresponding change on the display) depending on the user’s preference.
The app also has the ability to track the measurements and can export the data as a CSV for computer use. Body size can be tracked with a graph that displays measurements over time. The device itself offers access to 100 measurements and voice memos without the need to connect to a smartphone.
