Turn your smartphone into a microscope. The Micro Phone Lens allows you to take images at a magnification of 150X using just a smartphone or tablet.
The lens attaches to these devices using an adhesive backing and in combination with the slides and sufficient, quality lighting, it allows users to take pictures at a fraction of the cost of a regular microscope. Simply press down the lens on to the camera lens, focus the device, and capture a picture or video.

The lens is the brainchild of University of Washington graduate Thomas Larson, who envisions it to be something that can be used by children to get them excited about their environment and scientists, who may be able to work more effectively with the device.
Currently, Micro Phone Lens offers 4X and 8X magnification lenses (“macro lenses”) for $14.99. They also offer 5X magnification lens for $14.99 and a 150X magnification lens starter kit at $49.99. The latter also has an option to buy individual pieces (the lens, light, etc.) separately or the option to add on 25 prepared slides to look at.
