“Alexa, is my laundry done?”
Whirlpool announced that its new home appliances will be compatible with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. This means these appliances will be designed to respond to voice requests for tasks like pausing and starting a load of laundry, asking for the time remaining on a wash cycle, adjusting the cooking mode on a smart oven, and turning on maximum cool settings for refrigerators among other commands.
As it stands there are various smart home appliances that can be controlled using smartphones, tablets, and some even with your voice. That is something that you can look forward to in the future moving forward as Whirlpool has announced a collaboration with Amazon. This collaboration is expected to see Amazon’s Alexa integrated into Whirlpool’s devices.
In Future you will be able to ask Alexa to start/stop/pause your washers and dryers, enable/disable quiet mode, change its settings, ask for time remaining, and so on. Users will also be able to interact with Whirlpool’s smart ovens to adjust cooking temperature, select cooking modes, as well as start/stop it.
Customers of existing smart Whirlpool appliances would be able to enable this functionality when Whirlpool’s Amazon Alexa Skill goes live.
Now any customer with a far-field Alexa enabled device can control most smart appliances made by Whirlpool Corporation, simply using their voice,” said Rob Pulciani, director, Amazon Alexa. “Our customers will love the added convenience of hands-free controls while they’re prepping for dinner or finishing that last load of laundry.”
